About the Class
The Utah Health Care Association’s Medication Aid Certified course will consist of 60 clock hours of didactic (in-person classroom) training, which is consistent with the model curriculum, and at least 40 hours of practical training within a long-term care facility. Each student will complete their clinical hours at their own home facility with an approved on site clinical instructor of their choice. More information below.
Student Acceptance
UHCA has the capacity to accept 10 students in person, and up to 10 students virtually. If you are in the Salt Lake Valley please choose in-person. Virtual students are reserved for those who live farther away to accommodate the entire state.
Each student will submit an application under the register button at the bottom of this page. UHCA will then review the application and approve or deny based upon the information received.
Pricing
Member: $750 (Includes ALL Skilled Nursing Facilities in Utah, ALL ICF/IID Facilities and select Assisted Living Facilities.)
Non-Member: $1,100

Prerequisites
1. High school diploma or successful passage of the general educational development (GED) test
2. Current certification as a nurse aide, in good standing, from the Utah Nursing Assistant Registry *Required to Upload*
3. A minimum of 2,000 hours of experience within the two years prior to application, working as a certified nurse aide in an approved health care setting.
4. Current CPR certification *Required to Upload*
Clinical Hours
Each student will conduct their clinical hours at their own skilled nursing facility supervised by an on-site practical training experience instructor of their choice. The practical training instructor will be approved by UHCA upon application to the program. A written letter request must be submitted with the application. *Required to Upload*
The practical training instructor-to-student ratio shall be: 1:2 if the instructor is working one-on-one with the student to administer the medications; or 1:6 if the instructor is supervising a student who is working one-on-one with the clinical facility's medication nurse. The on-site practical training experience instructor shall be on-site and available at all times if the student is not being directly supervised by a licensed nurse during the practical training experience. By each student conducting their clinical hours at their own facilities, they will have access to appropriate trainers and resources to provide the training program including a well-stocked clinical skills lab or the equivalent.
*Clinical hours must be completed within 4 weeks after classes end. Once all clinical hours have been reported to UHCA, the student will receive a certificate of completion to be able to register for the DOPL exam.

Class Hours: 9am-4:30pm with a 1 hour lunch
Free days for clinicals are just a suggestion of clinical days. Clinical days will be based upon your schedule and your on-site clinical instructors schedule. Clinical hours must be completed within 4 weeks of the classes ending to receive your completion certificate.

Student Denial Policy:

Applications may be denied if all information is not uploaded at the time of registration.
Cancellation Policy:
- Cancellation of registration 6 weeks prior to event is entitled to a full refund.
- Cancellation of registration 4 weeks prior to event is entitled to a half refund.
- Cancellation of registration 2 weeks or less will be entitled to NO Refund.
